Natural Science Building (288 Farm Lane), Room 352, E. Lansing, MI 48824

Michigan State University is hosting a workshop on honey bee anatomy and dissection as a pre-conference activity prior to the Michigan Beekeepers Association Spring Conference.

Do you know that bees do not listen to radio but all have antenna cleaners? What is the structure of a pollen basket? How do hind wings hitch hike to the front wings? Can bees hear? How do bees produce heat in a winter cluster?

Zachary Huang, PhD, will instruct a 1.5 hour workshop on honey bee anatomy and dissection. The workshop will include a presentation detailing the biology of honey bee structure, real time video showing how to manipulate a honey bee under a dissecting scope, and an opportunity to dissect your own bees under a dissecting scope with provided forceps. Time will be provided for questions and individual coaching on dissections. Children and minors must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. The cost of the workshop is $40. Registration is required.
