Savoring Honey in Winter

/ Zachary Huang

One drop —
the soul of flowers
rests on my tongue,
and my worries dissolve.

A sip of coffee,
sweetness blooming within.
A few almonds,
gratitude rising for you.

Snow still blankets the world,
yet I clearly breathe you in —
the perfume of your nectar-drying,
the glad whir of your wings.

I hope you still live.
Hold fast
against the roaring northern winds.
You must endure,
you must survive,
this bitter thirty-below winter.
